Probationary Officers start on a basic pay of approximately ₹48,480 per month under the current PSU bank officer pay scale. What’s New in IBPS PO 2026 — Exam Pattern Changes

IBPS has revised both the Mains objective test and the descriptive component for 2026. The headline change: the Mains objective section grows from 145 to 170 questions, with marks redistributed to give more weight to General/Economy/Banking Awareness and Data Analysis & Interpretation. The English Language section now carries more questions but fewer marks per question — a shift toward testing speed and accuracy rather than raw scoring weight. The Descriptive Test has also been restructured to cover an Essay and a Comprehension passage. Total objective marks remain at 200; with the 25-mark descriptive component, the Mains paper is now worth 225 marks in total.

Prelims Exam Pattern

Prelims is qualifying in nature — the score is used only to shortlist for Mains and is not added to the final merit list. Each section has a mandatory sectional timer; you cannot move to the next section early or return to a completed one. Negative marking of 0.25 marks applies for each wrong answer.

Mains Exam Pattern (Revised 2026)

Unlike the 2025 pattern’s 145-question objective test, 2026 candidates face 170 objective questions in the same overall time envelope, which raises the pace required per question — particularly in Data Analysis & Interpretation and General Awareness, both of which now carry proportionally more marks than in the previous cycle.

Selection Process — Prelims, Mains, Personality Test & Interview

• Prelims — qualifying only, shortlists candidates for Mains.

• Personality Test — new for 2026, held before the Interview. How to Apply for IBPS PO 2026 — Step by Step

1. Visit ibps.in → open the CRP PO/MT-XVI notification link.
2. Register with a valid email ID and mobile number to generate your provisional registration ID and password.
3. Complete live photograph capture as part of registration — this year’s process requires a live-captured photo rather than only an uploaded scan.
4. Verify identity documents via DigiLocker integration, newly added to the 2026 application flow.
5. Fill in personal, educational and category details, and select your bank preference order.
6. Upload signature and any other required scanned documents per the specifications in the notification.
7. Pay the application fee online: ₹850 (General/OBC/EWS) or ₹175 (SC/ST/PwBD).
8. Submit the form and download the confirmation page.
9. Use the 2-day post-closure edit window (opens around 22 July 2026) if you need to correct any submitted details — this is a new provision for 2026 and is not guaranteed to reopen after it closes.

PwBD Candidates — What’s Different in 2026

IBPS has tightened verification for candidates applying under the Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) category this year, adding UDID (Unique Disability ID) verification, Aadhaar verification, and the possibility of a medical reassessment where required. PwBD candidates should keep UDID and Aadhaar details ready before starting the application, since mismatches can delay or block category-based benefits like the reduced application fee and age relaxation.
