Every Finacle operator eventually discovers the same thing: the fastest employees at the counter are not the most experienced — they’re the ones who know the shortcuts. Finacle Menu Shortcuts and Fast Path commands are the difference between navigating four menus to reach a screen and typing two characters and hitting Enter. This guide covers every keyboard shortcut, all function key mappings, a fast path command reference for daily use, and a downloadable PDF cheat sheet you can print and stick at your workstation.

What Is Finacle Fast Path — and Why It Matters

In Finacle, the Fast Path is the navigation command bar at the top of the screen where you type a menu code to jump directly to any function — bypassing the entire menu tree. Instead of clicking through Main Menu → Operations → Cash → Cash Deposit (four steps, four seconds), you type CASHDEP and press Enter (one action, half a second). On a busy counter day with 50 transactions, this difference adds up to over 30 minutes of saved navigation time.

Fast Path codes are the same as Finacle command codes. Every screen in Finacle has a code, and typing it in the Fast Path bar takes you directly there. The bar is visible at all times in the Finacle 10 interface — usually labeled as the Menu Path or Go To field at the top. On older Finacle versions, it was the command line at the top of the green-screen terminal. In Finacle 10 (the web interface used at most banks today), it’s the text input in the top navigation bar.

Keyboard shortcuts in Finacle work at the screen level: every data entry screen has function key assignments that trigger common actions — Inquire, New, Modify, Authorize, Back — without moving your hands to the mouse. Combining Fast Path navigation with screen-level keyboard shortcuts is what separates a 3-minute transaction from a 45-second one.

Finacle Function Keys — F1 to F12 Complete Reference

Finacle maps standard actions to function keys across all screens. These are consistent in most public sector bank implementations of Finacle 10. A few keys vary by bank-specific customisation — check with your system administrator if a key behaves differently at your branch.

Key Action What It Does in Finacle
F1 Help Opens context-sensitive help for the current screen or field. Displays field descriptions and valid values.
F2 Inquire / Query Switches the screen to Inquire mode. Enter an account number or reference and press F2 to pull up the record. Most commonly used shortcut in daily banking.
F3 New / Create Opens a blank form to create a new record. Used when opening accounts, creating DDs, registering mandates, or adding any new entry.
F4 Modify / Edit Enables edit mode on an existing record. First use F2 to inquire the record, then F4 to modify it. Used for customer master updates, address changes, mandate modifications.
F5 Delete / Cancel Deletes the selected record or cancels an instrument (context-dependent). Used to delete draft entries or cancel a pending DD before it is printed.
F6 Accept / Validate Validates and accepts entries in the current screen without authorizing. Used as a mid-step to check field values before committing a transaction.
F7 Execute / Authorize Executes the transaction or authorizes a pending entry. This is the final commit key for most transactions — equivalent to clicking the Submit or Authorize button.
F8 Back / Previous Returns to the previous screen without saving. Use this to navigate back one level when you’ve opened the wrong screen or want to exit a partially-filled form.
F9 Exit Function Exits the current function completely and returns to the main menu or navigation bar. Different from F8 (back one level) — F9 exits the whole function.
F10 Main Menu Returns to the Finacle main menu from any screen. Quick way to reset navigation when you want to start fresh.
F11 Next Record / Page Down Moves to the next record in a list or scrolls down in a large grid. Useful when browsing account transaction history or a list of pending items.
F12 Previous Record / Page Up Moves to the previous record in a list or scrolls up. Pairs with F11 for navigating multi-record screens.

How to Use Fast Path in Finacle 10 — Step by Step

Using the Finacle Fast Path Bar

1 Click the Fast Path / Menu Path bar at the top of the Finacle screen — it is usually the text box just below the Finacle header, labeled “Go To” or “Fast Path” or showing the current menu path like Main > Operations > ...
2 Type the command code — for example, type CASHDEP for Cash Deposit, or CI for Customer Inquiry. The code is not case-sensitive in most implementations.
3 Press Enter — Finacle takes you directly to that function screen. No menu navigation required.
4 On the screen, use function keys — press F2 to inquire, F3 for new, F4 to modify, F7 to authorize. Use Tab to move between fields.
5 To go to the next function, click the Fast Path bar again (or use the keyboard shortcut to focus it), type the new command code, and press Enter.
Tip: You do not need to exit the current screen first. Typing a new command in the Fast Path bar and pressing Enter will navigate away from the current screen directly to the new one.

Common Finacle Navigation Mistakes — and the Fast Path Fix

Screen says “Function not allowed”Your user role does not have access to this commandCheck your role with branch admin. Use the corresponding read-only inquiry command instead.
Fast Path command not foundCommand code entered incorrectly, or the bank uses a bank-specific aliasCheck spelling. Try the menu name variant (e.g. HCASHDEP vs CASHDEP). Ask IT or use the menu tree to find the correct code.
F7 not authorizing the transactionTransaction may need a second-level authorization from a different userThe officer’s login must authorize. Check pending transactions queue. F7 only works when your role can authorize.
Pressing F8 exits the entire functionSome screens treat F8 as full exit rather than “back one level”This is screen-specific. Use the breadcrumb navigation or re-enter the command via Fast Path.
Tab skips a mandatory fieldTab may skip non-editable or auto-populated fieldsUse Shift+Tab to go back and check. Some fields appear greyed but are still required — scroll to verify all visible fields.

Frequently Asked Questions — Finacle Shortcuts & Fast Path

What is the Fast Path in Finacle?

The Fast Path in Finacle is the command navigation bar at the top of the screen where you type a menu code — such as CASHDEP or DDISSUE — and press Enter to go directly to that screen. It bypasses the entire menu tree, saving 3–6 seconds per navigation. Fast Path codes are the same as Finacle command codes. Every screen in Finacle has a unique code, and the Fast Path bar accepts all of them.

What are the most important function keys in Finacle?

The five function keys you will use in nearly every transaction are: F2 (Inquire — to query a record), F3 (New — to create a new record), F4 (Modify — to edit an existing record), F7 (Execute/Authorize — to commit a transaction), and F8 (Back — to return to the previous screen). F9 exits the current function entirely, and F1 opens context help. These key mappings are standard across most public sector bank Finacle 10 implementations.

How do I download the Finacle Fast Path PDF?

The Finacle 10 Commands PDF — which serves as the fast path reference cheat sheet — is available for download on this page. Click the ‘Download PDF’ button in the Download section above. The PDF covers all 900+ commands across all 17 categories. Print it in landscape mode and keep it at your workstation for daily reference. It is updated for Finacle 10 / Finacle X used in public sector banks.

Can I use Fast Path from any screen in Finacle?

Yes. You can type a new command in the Fast Path bar from any screen in Finacle and press Enter — it will navigate directly to the new screen without needing to exit the current one first. This is one of the key advantages of Fast Path navigation. However, if there is an unsaved transaction in progress on the current screen, Finacle may prompt you to save or discard it before navigating away.
