A WhatsApp message is being circulated that the banks in the country are going to be closed for six days in September.

This is the message being circulated:

“Dear All, Pl, note that all the Banks will remain closed for six days. 2nd Sept- Sun, 3rd Sept-Janmashtami, 4th, 5th Sept – Banks strike protest for pension. 8th, 9th Sept- sat & sun – Closed. All ATM’s may remain cashless. Pl, plan accordingly,”

Even a local news site Nagpur Today has published this news

What is the truth? Are banks in India really closed for 6 days in 1st week of September? Is there a two days strike of banks on 4th and 5th September?

No. Banks are not closed for 6 days in the 1st week of September. 2nd September is Sunday, which is a holiday. 3rd September is Janmashtmi, which may be holiday in some states but not a holiday in all states in India.

On 4th and 5th September, there is a strike (mass casual leave) by RBI employees, which is being misunderstood as strike by bank employees.

So, there is no bank strike on 4th & 5th September and banks are open as usual and 6 days holiday for bankers.
